You are invited to attend the 2022 NATP Annual Drivers Training & Statewide Roadeo Competition in Kearney!

The all-day Drivers Training will be held Wednesday, September 14 at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Convention Center. The NATP 30th Annual Statewide Roadeo will be held on Thursday, September 15 at the Nebraska Safety Center Driving Range.

This year's theme is "Western/30th Anniversary". A Spirit award will be given to an attendee who exemplifies the theme and spirit of the event though encouragement, attitude, costume/prop, etc.

EVENT INFORMATION

The all-day drivers training will be held Wednesday, September 14. This year’s training will help drivers meet their continuing education requirements. Courses include a PASS, Defensive Driving and Advanced Wheelchair Securement - Roadeo Edition. This training and lunch are provided at no cost to attendees. Registration for the Driver’s Training needs to be completed at www.nebraskatransit.com.

The NATP 30th Annual Statewide Roadeo will be held on Thursday, September 15. There are four components of competition at the Roadeo; a written test, pre-trip inspection, wheelchair securement, and driving the obstacle course. Pre-trip inspection and wheelchair securement will be completed on a small bus vehicle, even if, you will drive the obstacle course in the minivan division.

A minimum of five drivers are required for a division to be held. If less than five are registered, a driver may choose to change divisions and participate or a full refund will be given. NATP reserves the right to cancel the event and full refunds would be given. Registrants may cancel, with a full refund given, if notice is received by the NATP office prior to the event.

Complete rules will be emailed before the competition. To be eligible for a full scholarship to the National CTAA Roadeo, drivers must spend at least 50% of their time driving for their transit system. Individuals may not receive scholarships for more than two consecutive years. The fee to compete is $50.

The Roadeo is an outside event - please bring a lawn chair. Snacks and drinks will be provided. An appreciation lunch will be held at 2:30 p.m. following the Roadeo. There is no cost for the lunch and everyone is invited to attend, even if you don’t compete in the Roadeo.

The 1st place winners from each division (mini-van & small bus) will win $250; 2nd place winners will receive $150; and 3rd place will win $100. First and second place winners from the two divisions will earn a scholarship to compete at the 2023 National CTAA Roadeo in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The winning drivers’ managers will also earn a scholarship to attend the EXPO! If you have a driver competing, we ask that you provide a volunteer to judge. This is not required but suggested.

Need lodging? Hotel rooms will be available at the LaQuinta Inn on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, September 13 & 14, for those traveling more than sixty miles. You must reserve your hotel room through NATP when you register online or email jennifer@youraam.com. Hotel rooms must be reserved by August 10th. All section 5311 drivers’ and managers’ rooms will be direct billed to the Department of Transportation. Any incidentals will be your responsibility.

ROADEO CONTESTANTS: The written test will be given by the Roadeo Committee @ 4:45 p.m. or as soon as classes conclude on Wednesday (at the Holiday Inn Convention Center). The judges meeting will also run during this time.

DIRECTIONS TO THE NE SAFETY CENTER

1801 N. Railroad Street. Turn Left on 11th Street until 5th Avenue. At 5th Ave., turn Right and head North - crossing the railroad tracks until Railroad Street. Then turn West (left) and go .9 of a mile to the Nebraska Safety Center.

Note: Travel expenses and registration fees for managers, drivers and dispatchers to attend this event will be reimbursed 100% through the RTAP program.
